How to check your caption in 3 steps

Instagram, TikTok, X, and LinkedIn — all in one view.

1

Paste your caption

Write or paste your social media caption into the editor. Character counts and platform progress bars update instantly as you type.

2

Check platform fit

Each platform shows a progress bar — green under 90% of the limit, amber at 90–100%, red when over. Instagram and LinkedIn also show the visible-portion cutoffs where the caption gets truncated.

3

Extract & copy hashtags

All hashtags are extracted automatically, deduplicated, and listed as clickable chips. Duplicates are flagged in amber. Click 'Copy all hashtags' to grab the full set, formatted with spaces or line breaks.

About the Social Caption & Hashtag Counter

Everything you need to know

Why character limits matter

Every social platform enforces its own caption length. X (Twitter) caps at 280 characters — anything longer is impossible to post. Instagram allows 2,200 but truncates at 125 in the feed, so your hook must land in the first line. TikTok lets you write 2,200 but the caption is compressed in the UI. LinkedIn cuts off at 210 before 'see more'. Knowing these limits and where the visible portion ends is the difference between a caption that grabs attention and one that gets scrolled past.

Hashtag strategy that actually works

The '30 hashtags on Instagram' myth has been dead for years. Current best practice across platforms is a smaller set of highly-relevant tags — 3–10 on Instagram, 3–6 on TikTok, 1–2 on X, 3–5 on LinkedIn. Mix broad, niche, and branded tags. Avoid banned or spammy hashtags (check Instagram's community guidelines). Rotate tags between posts to avoid shadowban patterns. And always place hashtags where they read naturally — either woven into the caption or appended after a line break.

Hashtag extraction and duplicate detection

The tool scans your caption for any #word pattern using Unicode-aware regex. This means #Summer2025, #summer_vibes, #سلام, and #привет are all recognized. The extractor rejects email fragments (user#domain), URL anchors (swiftgrab.net#section), and pure-digit tags under two characters. Duplicates are flagged case-insensitively so #Summer and #summer are reported as the same tag. The final hashtag list is deduplicated, keeping the first-seen casing.

Privacy, performance, and browser support

Everything runs on your device — your caption never leaves your browser. Analysis takes under 5ms even for long captions. The tool uses grapheme segmentation where available (all modern browsers since 2022) and falls back to code-point counting otherwise. Captions auto-save to localStorage so you don't lose work if you refresh the page. Clearing the input removes both the state and the saved copy.
